Our Weld Overlay Approach

From assessment to final verification.

The overlay process is engineered around component geometry, base material, required deposit and service conditions. The objective is a controlled, repeatable surface layer that can be inspected and finished to the required dimensions.

  1. 01

    Component Assessment

Review geometry, dimensions, base material, worn area and service requirement.

  2. 02

    Surface Preparation

Clean and prepare the substrate for suitable deposition conditions.

  3. 03

    Deposition

Apply the selected overlay using a controlled welding process and defined parameters.

  4. 04

    Quality Assurance

Carry out applicable visual, dimensional and NDT/testing activities, as and where required.

  5. 05

    Machining & Finishing Upon Request

Machine the deposited layer to achieve required geometry and surface condition.

  6. 06

    Final Verification

Verify dimensions and applicable quality requirements before dispatch.

Why Weld Overlay

Protect the component.
Engineer the surface.

  1. 01

    Extend Component Service Life

  2. 02

    Improve Wear Resistance

  3. 03

    Improve Erosion / Corrosion Resistance

  4. 04

    Reduce Replacement Frequency

  5. 05

    Protect High-Value Base Materials

  6. 06

    Enable Targeted Surface Engineering

OEM Collaboration

From operating condition
to repeat production.

A key growth area for Vertex MetalTech is the development of wear and tear parts in collaboration with OEMs. Vertex MetalTech works with equipment manufacturers from early design through prototype development, field validation and repeat production.

Our OEM Development Focus

Designing and developing wear components around actual operating conditions — combining component geometry, material selection, weld overlay / cladding know-how and manufacturability.

  1. 01

    Understand

Wear mechanism, duty cycle, soil/material conditions and replacement requirements.

  2. 02

    Co-develop

Geometry, base material, overlay strategy and manufacturability with the OEM.

  3. 03

    Prototype

Manufacture trial components and establish repeatable deposition / finishing parameters.

  4. 04

    Validate

Evaluate wear performance, dimensions and agreed acceptance criteria.

  5. 05

    Production

Move from validated component to controlled series production.
